Taste the Rainbow

This sexy lineup was last Saturday's score from the Landrum Farmer's Market in Landrum, SC. Look at em!

Those white squash in the front are patty pan squash. I'd never come across them before but that's the beauty of it, isn't it. The fluffy green bit by the eggplant is dill. That was tossed in for free by the vendor who noted me coveting the bunch. With my nose. Olfactory coveting. So yeah, total win! Never-before-seen veggies and free herbs. First up, the patty pan squash. Patty patty pan pan.
Sliced up and sauteed with onion and garlic and some corn. Super tender and tasty. This other mushy bit was yellow-eyed peas with kale. Original recipe was for “Hottie black-eyed peas and kale” from Appetite for Reduction, a vegan cookbook I got out of the library. (Cheers for vegan cookbooks in wee South Carolina mountain towns.) Anyway, check out these yellow-eyed peas soaking in the sunshine.
Word! Cooked with the kale in a tomato-y and hot sauce-y sauce...golden

Another day was this colorful plate with Morningstar “ribs”, snap pea and tomato salad and Benjamin Button carrots.

Benjamin Button cause at first you're all like, awww, look at that... baby carrots, so cute and adorbs. But then you eat them and ohhhhhh no these are not small and wrinkley like a baby but like an old man! Tough and bitter. Cooked with a bit of maple syrup and a pinch of salt, but still, just, nope. Meh, them's the breaks.
