the Juicy Tuesday that wasn't

Last week, my friend who was visiting had the idea for a weekly juice day. We'd set aside one day to drink fresh juices, mostly veggies, minimal fruit. A fully liquid day! Tuesday doesn't really have much else going on so Juicy Tuesday it is. I figured it'd be healthy plus I like the challenge. Right off I ran into a couple snags as I don't have a juicer and yesterday really wasn't conducive to the endeavor. So here I am now, on the afternoon of Smoothie Wednesday. I did some research to prepare and one book recommended starting the day with a glass of water (8 oz) with lemon juice and a pinch of cayanne pepper. WOW this wakes up your face! Maybe I have a heavy pinch or I'm just not used to spicy morning water. I ended up drinking some and adding water to dilute it so I probably downed about 2 glasses and it's a bit odd but it does get ya goin.
My first smoothie was 2 stalks of celery, 1 cucumber, ½ an apple, a few leaves of kale and a bit of ginger root.

I food processed it and then put it in the blender with some additional lemon water because optimal smoothness was not being reached. And unfortunately, it never was. The taste of the smoothie was pleasant but the texture was mushy and not nice. It took 20 minutes get it down, which I did because I'm dedicated and I wasn't about to waste those veggies.

I then had to go to work for a few hours and I actually stayed full for about 2 hours. If you have a job where you're out all day, I'm not sure how you'd manage this. Unless you live in a place where you can swing by the local juice bar. Cause that's what you do with juice bars....swing by. I live in the middle of nowhere (albeit a beautiful middle of nowhere) so I went to work with green tea and had smoothie round 2 when I got home.  I couldn't abide another of the same so I tried to go easy with just 1 cucumber and the other ½ apple. It was better than the morning but the texture still left a lot to be desired. Easier to drink but still far from good. I'm feeling well however, not uncomfortably hungry or sluggish or anything. I'm not a huge herbal tea fan but I made a batch and I'm sipping it iced and it's enjoyable.
Side note: the weather today is stellar! The air has been cool even though it got up to 70degreesF (22C). Overcast but bright with high clouds....hello September!

this view makes everything a little easier to swallow
For dinner I really couldn't handle another not-at-all-smoothie so I decided to blend up a cold soup. I had made some pico de gallo a few days before (tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, cilantro, garlic) and I blended that with one cucumber.

I also steamed some kale and added lemon juice and a bit of sea salt. That was quite good!

I'm pretty happy with how today went. I'm a bit hungry, but that was expected and I don't feel at all fatigued. A successful veggies and fruits day. Now...what's for breakfast?
